The Capitol Corridor and City CarShare have initiated a new partnership making our rail service and car-sharing more accessible to more people as a transportation alternative. City CarShare's non-profit car-sharing program allows members to use a car when needed without incurring the fixed costs of ownership.
Capitol Corridor and City CarShare will be working together to promote the combination of rail and member-based automobile use at select train stations. This partnership should prove beneficial for those who need convenient access to a car upon arrival at their destination. This new partnership will build upon the Capitol Corridor's connections with intermodal and other transit services in Richmond, San Jose, Fremont-Centerville, and Great America-Santa Clara.
City CarShare members can pick up cars at 'pods' located all over the Bay Area. Currently, there are 12 pods located through out Oakland and Berkeley. Several pods are near BART stations, including Glen Park, Rockridge and Lake Merritt. Take the train to Richmond and board BART to any participating City CarShare pod. Also, the Capitol Corridor Amtrak Emeryville station will soon be a City CarShare pod.
At this time, City CarShare provides a network of vehicles parked in neighborhoods throughout San Francisco, the East Bay, Palo Alto, and Mountain View. Cars are available by reservation to members on a per-use basis. Members pay based on how much they drive per hour and per mile, that's for gas, insurance, maintenance, everything! In the future, City CarShare and the Capitol Corridor look to build upon our greater Bay Area relationship and expand into the communities of Davis and Sacramento.
